This year’s gala honored Misty Copeland, who received the inaugural Lincoln Center Luminary Award that was created to recognize artists whose impact extends beyond the stage and into their communities.
They also recognized Andreas C. Dracopoulos, Co-President of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, in recognition of the Foundation’s transformative support of Lincoln Center’s West Initiative, a project that will create new entrances, public community gardens, and a world-class outdoor amphitheater set to open in Summer 2028.
This event not only welcomed in the summer season, but it also helped provide critical support for Summer for the City, their premiere free arts festival, attended by more than 1.6 million visitors since its launch in 2022, featuring hundreds of free and choose-what-you-pay performances that invite audiences to connect across cultures through live art.
EGOT-winning, critically acclaimed, multiplatinum artist and producer John Legend headlined the gala event with a standout musical performance playing a variety of his hits and medodies that had the entire audience singing along!
Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City will be from June 10–August 8, 2026, transforming New York’s iconic arts campus into a vibrant celebration of movement, music, and community.
From groundbreaking dance companies and global music traditions to social dance events and outdoor experiences, the festival captures the creativity, energy, and diversity that make New York one of the world’s great cultural capitals.
