Spend the holidays with us as Chanticleers Theatre and East Bay Children's Theatre present our co-production of the award-winning holiday musical The Man Who Saved Christmas! This very merry hit returns to the Bay Area for the first time in more than a decade, after enjoying productions from coast to coast throughout the United States, in Canada and England, and after seeing the recording the successful studio cast album. Our production will be directed by the show’s creator, Ron Lytle (Christmas in OZ). ​ The Man Who Saved Christmas is loosely based on the true story of toy maker A.C. Gilbert (the inventor of The Erector Set.) Set in 1917, as America is embroiled in the first World War, this 'new old-fashioned’ crowd-pleaser focuses on Gilbert's battle with the U.S. government as it attempts to ban toy sales during the holiday season. Added to the mix: A secretary who keeps her heart on ice and a visiting reporter determined to thaw it out; the nefarious Iago of the toy factory, Mister Dixon; Gilbert's loving wife Mary; and the Gilberts' precocious niece Ellen, who untangles the myriad complications in which the young lovers--and the Toy Tycoon--find themselves. ​ Suitable for the entire family, this is the perfect antidote for those saying "Bah humbug!" to one more production of "A Christmas Carol" or for those driven nuts by the annual "Nutcracker"!

The moment Franc steps up to the microphone, you'll find yourself singing along to many of your favorite classics in a tribute to "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year", including Broadway standards such as Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" and "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. Franc's heartstopping renditions of "O Holy Night," "What Child is This?," and "The Secret of Christmas" will leave you breathless. But it's not all about Christmas! Franc has several other surprises tucked under the tree for us, including a selection of songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and the always haunting Les Miserables. We never let Franc leave the Feinstein's stage without delivering his iconic Phantom of the Opera medley from the Broadway musical that made him famous, and the authentic Sicilian ballad "Speak Softly Love" which he sang in both the film and the original motion picture soundtrack for Godfather III. Who knows, even Alexander Hamilton may make a surprise appearance! There may be no place like home for the holidays, but clearly, there's no one like Franc D'Ambrosio to take you there.

Written and Performed by Sara Porkalob Directed by Andrew Russell Dragon Lady starts in the year of the Water Dragon on the eve of Grandma Maria’s 60th Birthday, “your most important birthday of your old people birthdays,” when Maria Porkalob Sr. must share the dark secrets of her fantastical life with her first-born grandbaby Sara “so they remember after you are dead.” Through laughter, shock, singing, and tears, the two women discover that it is never too late to atone for pain we inflict on our loved ones and forgive ourselves for past regrets. Guided by the beats of her grandmother’s new karaoke machine, Sara portrays dozens of characters through 50 years of Maria’s bittersweet memories and sensational adventures – from a Manila nightclub in the ‘60s to a Washington state trailer park. This solo cabaret musical by Seattle-based storyteller and activist Sara Porkalob is the first in her trilogy of “matrilineal” musicals about her Filipino American gangster family; one play for each generation built around grandmother, mother, granddaughter, and her specific hero’s journey. Dragon Lady is a funny and fearless tour-de-force in two acts featuring a live three-piece jazz ensemble on stage. Directed by Andrew Russell, this family tale comes replete with gangsters, murders and more that explores what it means to be an immigrant single mom in America.
