From Tchaikovsky’s graceful and unforgettable melodies of Swan Lake to the swan-inspired theme in Jean Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony, hear how two composers crafted two beloved but very different works with a similar inspiration. Andrew Sords has been described by Cleveland Classical as a violinist with “…total command of technique, consummate musicianship, and bravura…” He tells the incredible story of the Wieniawski Légende, a tale that uses the power of music to win over those opposed to his marriage, and displays the technical fireworks of Zigeunerweisen by Pablo de Sarasate. Signature Chorale Celebrate the emergence of the holiday season with Christmas in Tulsa, a concert that promises timeless holiday favorites for a magical night with friends and family. The Signature Chorale joins the Signature Symphony and the whole evening will conclude with an entire auditorium of music lovers singing in unison to a holiday sing-a-long. In this whirlwind program, American composer Mason Bates leads the way with his techno-infused Mothership, complete with improvisation and 21st-century dance elements. Acclaimed pianist Charlie Albright has been praised by the New York Times for his “jaw-dropping technique” and “virtuosity with a distinctive musicality.” Charlie makes his Signature Symphony debut with Ellington’s optimistic New World A-Comin and Gershwin’s timeless icon, Rhapsody in Blue. The evening concludes with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s final work, his Symphonic Dances. This work echoes his love of his new American home and blends the endless melodies of his Romantic style with a forward vision and even hints of jazz.
