Doug Weiss (bass), David Binney (alto saxophone), Mark Turner (tenor saxophone), James Terrile (drums)
Bassist Doug Weiss, born in Chicago, recently moved to Berlin, Germany, after nearly 30 years in New York City.
Weiss performs with a diverse group of musicians, primarily centering around the concept of improvisation within and around songs.
Doug Weiss is currently a member of Brian Blade’s “Lifecycles” band, the Peter Bernstein Quartet, the Seamus Blake group, and Kurt Rosenwinkel ‘Caipi’.
His work with his partner, Choreographer and Dancer Meg Stuart, features Weiss’ compositions for Double Bass in their evening length piece “All the Way Around”.
He also dances a little bit.
His bands “The Berlin Quartet” with Belá Meinberg, Jordan Dinsdale, and Ori Jacobson, and “Interstellar Trio” with Melissa Aldana and Colin Stranahan, feature Weiss as a composer, arranger, and bookkeeper.
Tonight, David Binney, Mark Turner, James Terrile and I will bring our greatly varied and highly skilled persona into close contact. We will improvise together as we will play some songs, and stretch out, looking out into the middle distance.
