Featuring: Tulsa Youth Symphony
This concert features an adaptation of Georges Bizet’s fiery and controversial Carmen by Rodion Schedrin, where the opera is now transformed into ballet and features strings and percussion to convey this passionate work. The Tulsa Youth Symphony joins the Signature Symphony on the first part of the program featuring the zesty rhythms of Astor Piazzolla and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, a work that utilizes two string orchestras and a solo quartet to pay a mesmerizingly beautiful homage to English composer Thomas Tallis.

Signature Symphony, Tulsa Youth Symphony
After a remarkable first album composed together and about thirty concerts in the USA, Jeff Denson and Romain Pilon come to present their new opus, "Finding Light" on Saturday, September 30. The trio is completed on drums by the fantastic, Grammy-nominated Mark Ferber. The music of this trio, interactive and generous, reflects the pleasure these musicians have in playing together. You will find influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Wayne Shorter, via Miles Davis, Hendrix or Satie, among many others. Don’t miss this must see show! Northeastern State University’s new Director of Jazz Studies Jordan VanHemert is performing for the first time in Oklahoma alongside his quartet on Thursday, September 14. The group, which includes Oklahoma favorites Scott McQuade (piano), Oklahoma State University professor Glenn Dewey (bass), and Steve Pruitt (drums), will play modern, straight-ahead jazz. Hailed by noted jazz critic Scott Yanow as a "skilled modern improvisor with a sound all his own", VanHemert's music pays homage to his Korean roots and his love for lyrical melodicism of the jazz tradition while driving forward toward the future of the art form. With its rhythmic, powerful, graceful, and captivating style, Reflejos Flamencos is putting on a memorable performance on Saturday, September 2nd! The audience will enjoy a collection of pieces ranging from traditional flamenco forms to modern pieces influenced by jazz and classical music. Reflejos Flamencos shares Spanish music and dance with Tulsa. The group started twenty years ago as a father-daughter duo showcasing flamenco guitar and dance by Johnny Beard and daughter Lexi Allen.
