In Risa Jaroslow’s new work, Talking Circle, six people ages 25 to 78 gather to make a decision that will impact each of their lives. What do they hope for as individuals at different stages of life and as a community? What risks will they take to achieve the freedoms they dream of?

This story follows a brother and sister’s adventure through a traditional German village, into a spooky forest, and as they are captured by an evil, hungry witch. The production incorporates the beautiful ballet score composed by the brilliant Claire Cowan. This compelling ballet asks the question: will good triumph over evil? Tutu School’s annual Spring Bravo Bash recital performance! For all the Tutu School performers, family, and friends, please read the following closely to ensure a successful event for our dancers and attendees: All in-class performers will receive ONE (1) ticket for the show, all other family and friends will need to purchase tickets to attend the show. A Promo code will be given to the parent to use to receive their free ticket for their dancer. Parents will need to enter the code into the system prior to ordering their ticket(s) online. All attendees (including your dancer) will require a ticket for the event. Babies (13 months and younger) who sit in laps do not require a ticket. Tickets do not guarantee a seat. Every summer Deeply Rooted presents the future of dance with the Summer Dance Intensive (SDI) final performances. These remarkable students perform classic works from Deeply Rooted Dance Theater’s repertory, as well as new pieces from this year's Emerging Choreographer, Dara Meredith. Join us in celebrating these remarkable rising stars! SDI participants experience a rigorous curriculum fostering learning and personal growth, with a curriculum that includes classes based in Horton, Graham, ballet, and contemporary movement. The Intensive also features The Continuum, a series of guided, remote conversations on self-awareness and personal growth informed by each student’s creativity and artistic process.
Deeply Rooted Dance Theater is thrilled to perform in DanceAfrica Chicago, presented by Muntu Dance Theatre, when it returns this summer with a one-night-only, two-hour concert performance showcasing the breadth and depth of Black dance excellence in the Midwest. The evening will also feature the professional companies of M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Red Clay Dance, Rennie Harris Puremovement and, of course, Muntu Dance Theatre, accompanied by the exceptional youth of Azania Drum. Deeply Rooted presents a culminating showcase for participants in the spring session of its Dance Education programs, including students in the Youth Ensemble, Emerging Artists Ensemble, and the Mature H.O.T. Women program for women ages 25 and older who are Health-conscious, Optimistic, and Triumphant.
A captivating collection of exhilarating new works from the dancers of Chicago Tap Theatre. Chicago Tap Theatre returns to the historic Athenaeum Center for its long anticipated return to its intimate Studio A, bringing audience members closer to the dancing and allowing for a premiere viewing and listening experience of live tap dance. Snapshots will feature new works by many of Chicago Tap Theatre’s company dancers. This show will also feature the premiere of the new work by tap legend Sam Weber as well as a work by Greta Sorensen of Hope College. The various choreographers will share their viewpoints with the audience, running the gamut from sophisticated rhythmic excursions to deeply personal pieces about joy and trans rights. Some of Chicago’s most talented musicians will be accompanying the dancers and delighting audiences. Four performances are offered during this June 16-18 run, followed by its virtual premiere on July 8th at 7pm and running on-demand through July 17th.
Founded by Estella “Nonosina” Reid, Nonosina celebrates and honors Polynesian arts through music and movement as both a dance company and school. Artistic Director Tiana Nonosina Liufau, granddaughter of Reid, has been featured on So You Think You Can Dance? and created choreography for Disney’s Moana. Join Nonosina in this opportunity to explore the music and dance of Polynesian cultures. Recommended for kids ages 3–11.
