The Little Mermaid - Red Curtain Addict

The Little Mermaid

Red Curtain Addict Night Out to the San Francisco Ballet's production of The Little Mermaid!

More about The Little Mermaid

About the Experience

Dive into the emotional depths of John Neumeier’s The Little Mermaid, a heart-wrenching tale of love and sacrifice. This will not be parallel with the Disney Princess movie that we all love and adore. Rather, it is a haunting tale about the mermaid who travels between both worlds (both land and sea), tormented by her unrequited love for the prince. Will it end happily? You'll have to come to find out!

*Not recommended for children under age 12

About the night

We're excited to partner with ENCORE! (San Francisco Ballet's young professional's group) for the Opening Night of The Little Mermaid! Before the show, we will enjoy bites (from Global Gourmet) and wine (from Bespoke Collection). We will meet again for more tasty hors d'oeuvres and drinks during the intermission in a special location for ENCORE! and Red Curtain Addict ticketholders. After the stunning performance of The Little Mermaid, we will head to one of our favorite tiki bars for 'under the sea' themed cocktails at Smuggler's Cove.

What to Wear:

What to expect...

The Mermaid will be performed by Principal Dancer, Yuan Yuan Tan who has been dancing at the San Francisco Ballet for 24 years! Yuan Yuan is known for her technical finesse, exceptional performances and her ability to take on challenging roles with poise.

Throughout her role, she will be wearing long pants as her mermaid fin while she is lifted by three shadows to appear as if she is swimming. Once she "gains legs" she will be dancing barefoot (which is not commonly seen at the San Francisco) Ballet followed by a climatic performance on pointe as she professes her love for the prince. Needless to say, it is quite the undertaking and we can't wait to see this beautiful production with you!

What else you should know?

Hans Christian Anderson was the original author of The Little Mermaid and it was first published in 1837. Since then, the story has been translated and adapted through books, television, film, theater, and ballet among many others. Although it is a heart-wrenching story about the ultimate sacrifice of love, it has been cherished and celebrated for nearly 200 years!
