About the Story:
Similar to Babes in Toyland, where toys come to life, The Velveteen Rabbit is a tale about love, loyalty, and hope. This story about a stuffed rabbit and a boy who endure much together but triumph through it all due to their love for one another. Told from the perspective of the rabbit who wants nothing more to become real. It is based on a British children’s book that was first written in 1922 by Margery Williams Bianco who received several awards and was recognized by the National Education Association who named the book one of its “Teachers’ Top 100 Books for Children.” The Velveteen Rabbit‘s message is a classic, that we know your kids and family are going to love!

1) HOLIDAY SKATING WITH THE VELVETEEN RABBIT
For the first time this year, ODC/Dance will host a special precursor event leading up to the performances where characters from The Velveteen Rabbit will be at the Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center on Saturday, November 17 from 12-4pm, for an afternoon of ice skating, a meet and greet, photo opportunities and a chance to cuddle some cute real-life bunnies from SaveABunny, a Bay Area non-profit that shelters and treats neglected rabbits. You can be a part of the charitable act and help ODC/Dance give the gift of live theater to schoolchildren who otherwise wouldn’t have access.
