5 Holiday Experiences That You Don't Want To Miss in the Bay Area

December 21, 2018
The holidays are just around the corner and so are some fun and festive experiences! Scroll down to find some unique ideas on ways to celebrate the season with family or traveling guests, we've curated a list of must-see holiday experiences right here in the Bay Area.

1. Midtown Men at the San Francisco Symphony

The San Francisco Symphony is great at presenting a variety of seasonal concerts that are always fun for all ages. This year they will be mixing it up a bit by presenting a fun holiday pops concert featuring the original cast of Jersey Boys! It's hard to believe that is has almost been 15 years since the Jersey Boys made its world debut. The four guys are coming back together to sing variations from the Beatles, Motown, The Four Season, and of course, some holiday favorites!

Tickets start at $20.00

2. San Francisco Ballet's Nutcracker

Next on our list is the San Francisco Ballet's production of The Nutcracker that is always so magical. This has been a Bay Area tradition for decades, in fact the San Francisco Ballet was the first American ballet company to perform the Nutcracker in the United States on Christmas Eve in 1944 and they've been performing it ever since! One of our favorite parts is when the Sugar Plum fairies dance in the snow. Fun fact, over 600 pounds of snow falls during EVERY performance!

Tickets start around $50.00

3. A.C.T's A Christmas Carol

A.C.T. (American Conservatory Theater) has started the run of their production of A Christmas Carol and it will be running through the end of the year. They have performed this in San Francisco over 12,000 times during the last 42 years. And what we love about the cast is that it's made up of talented actors (of course) and several A.C.T. Young Conservatory students and students from the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) Program. It's so great to see how our Bay Area community performers (of all ages) come together to celebrate a classic story about Mr. Scrooge.

Tickets start at $20

4. The Great Dickens Christmas Fair

And if you want to take your love for A Christmas Carol one step further, another activity that's great for out of town guests or families with kids is The Great Dickens Christmas Fair in Daly City at the Cow Palace! This is an immersive holiday experience where you can come dressed up in Victorian costumes and step inside the world of Charles Dickens and the streets of Victorian London circa Christmas 1860. There are several theatrical performances, music, dancing, arts and crafts and more!

Tickets start at $30 and kids are half off.

5. SFJAZZ's New Years Eve Celebration

There are so many amazing New Years Eve parties in this city but I'll tell ya, SFJAZZ knows how to do it right! This year they will be ringing in the New Year with the king of funky saxophone, Maceo Parker who use to perform with the soul legend James Brown. And opening the show will be vocalist and songwriter Deva Mahal singing groovy heavy R&B. There will be a balloon drop at midnight with complimentary champagne, a giant disco ball and party favors! It will be a good time and a fun way to bring in the New Year with music!
