We've listed out our top-pick concerts in the Bay Area that are a MUST SEE in February celebrating the love and passion for a special someone, personal beliefs, kids, culture and community. From Broadway musicals to kids concerts, to a romantic date night experiences to cultural celebrations, we think you're going to like what you find...

February 6 - March 4: The Book of Mormon, SHN

Nine-time Tony Award(r)-winning Best Musical, The Book of Mormon follows the hilarious journey of a mismatched pair of Mormon missionaries as they embark their mission from Salt Lake City to Northan Uganda. After a few difficulties and some setbacks, one of them starts to lose faith in their religion. But instead of abandoning his religion, Elder Price holds on and decides to go all in by reaffirming everything that a Mormon believes. The New York Times calls it "the best musical of this century." and Entertainment Weekly says it's, "Grade A: the funniest musical of all time."

February 10: The Art of Listening, The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra

Since 1953, the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra has presented an annual season of admission-free concerts featuring their ensemble that's made up of the Bay Area's top professional musicians. On February 10th, they will present their Art of Listening program that was designed for toddlers and kids. These fun 20-minute programs are a perfect way to introduce classical music to little ones.

Throughout the performance, they will be able to wiggle and dance, participate in hands-on activities and see instruments up close with meet-and-greet opportunities with the artists.

February 14 - 18: World Premiere Trouble in Tahiti, SF Jazz and Opera Parallele

In celebration of Leonard Bernstein's centennial, SFJAZZ and Opera Parallele have created an experiential concert that combines both old and new music with a multi-media flare. They will be combining local Composer Jake Heggie's At the Statue of Venus with a classic by Leonard Bernstein, Trouble in Tahiti.

As you enter the hall you might spot a wondering live-statue that has been covered from head-to-toe with body paint. Soon enough, that statue will be captured by members of the cast that will bring her to up to the set in that's transformed into a museum. There will be a cast, a full orchestra, projections, a moving stage AND dancers. It's an all in one kind of night that you can share with one another and create lasting memories!

February 15 -25: Distinctly SF Ballet

All three works that will be featured in this program were created distinctly for the San Francisco Ballet company (hense the program's name). In fact, one of them was even choreographed by one of San Francisco Ballet's own dancers, Myles Thatcher. Every year, the San Francisco ballet has a training program with a choreography workshop and Helgi Tomasson (SF Ballet's Artistic Director/Principal Choreographer) saw something special in Myle's work.

Ever since then, Myles has been doing more and more choreography and premiered Ghost in the Machine last year. It was so well received that that company has brought it back by popular demand. He named it this based on the book Ghost in the Machine by Arthur Koestler, a philosophical book is about how an individual's action can alter the energy of another person or the overall dynamic of a larger group. Like a ghost, you can't see this chain reaction but the transformation is apparent in the outcome.Through his series of dances, he wanted to show how this ghost-like effect (both negative and positive) can happen in relationships, communities and within an individual. It's very reflecting and very moving. I encourage EVERYONE to see it!

February 23-25: Serenade, The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra

Masterpieces by two great Romantics, Antonin Dvorak and Johannes Brahms, share the stage in a concert which focusses almost exclusively on our fabulous woodwinds. An homage to Mozart, Dvorak's Serenade in D minor is filled with Slavonic rhythms and displays the composer's gift for graceful melodies. Brahms's Serenade No. 2 in A Major, written for an orchestra without violins, is a warm, gracious work colored by the darker hues of our lower strings and woodwinds. In contrast, Heitor Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No.5 is scored for eight cellos and soprano, whose lush wordless vocals float hauntingly over our cello choir.

Feb 24 - Chinese New Year Concert, San Francisco Symphony

Celebrate Lunar New Year and the Year of the Dog with the San Francisco Symphony at this family event that draws on both ancient and contemporary traditions. The concert will open with the popular neon dragon dance and features a combination of traditional music, alongside orchestral works by Asian and European composers. Concert highlights include Zhang Zuo performing Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the San Francisco Symphony, as well as a performance of Tan Dun's TheTriple Resurrection in which she is joined by SFS violinist Yun Chu and cellist Amos Yang.
