Flushing Town Hall presents "Songbirds," featuring the music of Minnie Riperton, Shirley Horn and Joni Mitchell, performed by soulful jazz vocalist and pianist Mala Waldron and her quartet.

Addict Insider: Vocalist/Pianist/Composer Mala Waldron is a New York City native who balances local performances with tours all over Europe and Asia. Mala writes her own arrangements and composes most of the music she plays on tour. This time, she's playing her own arrangements of the music of women singer/songwriters that made a significant impact on her musical career.

'Tosca'

Steaming Date: April 12, 2021 at 10:00am PT / 1:00pm ET - April 13 at 10:00am PT / 1:00pm ET (Only available for 24hrs!)

The Wiener Staatsoper (The Vienna State Opera) has opened up their archives to stream their 2019 performance of Puccini's 'Tosca.' 'Tosca' is the ultimate love story between Floria Tosca (a beautiful and celebrated singer) and Cavaradossi (a good-lookin' painter) who have a major obstacle between them and "happily ever after". His name is Baron Scarpia, the Chief of Police who basically wants Tosca all for himself. He tells Tosca that if she sleeps with him, her lover Cavaradossi can live. (What a charmer... ?) What does Tosca do next? You'll have to watch to find out...

Addict Insider: Why is this on the list? Two words... Floria. Tosca. Tosca ("the leading lady" you might say) is the ultimate powerhouse. She is one of the strongest female characters in opera who is smart, strong, empowered, and has some pretty mean fighting skills. She's definitely no damsel in distress. She takes names and doesn't look back. Basically, what we're trying to say is, she's a badass.

'Lineage' - Curated by Julia Bullock for San Francisco Symphony's 'Soundbox' Series

Steaming Date: Currently Available On-Demand

Curated by internationally acclaimed soprano Julia Bullock as part of the San Francisco Symphony's "Soundbox" series, "Lineage" offers a unique collection of works from an impressive variety of composers and performers. The concert is themed "Lineage" to highlight how music can inform, influence, and impact us in a unique (and sometimes challenging) way.

"The musicians on this SoundBox program could not make music all together in one place, or even at one time, but the very nature of this program--which links material that spans across almost 900 years--captures an audio and visual snapshot of how a lineage can inform, influence, impact, and express itself in a musical context." - Julia Bullock

Addict Insider: Julia is such an inspiration for women around the world, and has been featured at some of the most world-renowned concert halls, taking on several diverse roles. "I have a voice that can speak to a lot of things. I don't need to play to a particular role as a singer. I can use every bit of who I am in every role I play. That feels good, fluid, deep." She's definitely someone to keep an eye on as her career continues to flourish!

Weightless

Steaming Date: April 15 - May 30, 2021

'Weightless' from the Women's Project Theater is an all-encompassing performance experience created by the Kilbanes (an awesome married songwriting and performing duo). The production is "a visual concept album--the band and the cast are one and the same--blurring the line between actors and musicians, between musical theater, video art, and rock concert." If you're hoping for a night of theater at home that checks all the boxes, this is definitely an experience to check out!

Addict Insider: The Women's Project Theater was founded in 1978 and has earned acclaim as a home for women+ theater-makers, historically marginalized in the field, to hone their craft while becoming leaders, change-makers, and advocates in the industry. To date, they have produced more than 600 Mainstage productions and developmental projects and published 11 anthologies of plays by women+ artists. So awesome!!

EYESOW

Steaming Date: Available Indefinitely

EYESOW is a story of three women seeking connection in all aspects of their lives. Through effort, rigor, and discontentment, they go on an ongoing search to find what ends up being right in front of them. Nonetheless, they come to realize whatever they reap, they sow. This production is definitely good timing as we have all searched for connections when we were siloed in our own worlds during the past year.

Addict Insider: In 2019, Micaela Taylor was named one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch,"! She has founded her own dance company (The TL Collective) after receiving training in hip hop and African dance as well as classical ballet to develop a choreographic voice called "contemporary pop" that resonates across dance genres. She is trailblazing in the city of Los Angeles and beyond, and is definitely worth checking out!
