Welcome Back To The Rouge!

We can’t resist a night at Moulin Rouge! The Musical, whether it’s on Broadway or on tour! Recently, we had the chance to see the show again on Broadway for Aaron Tveit’s limited return to the show as Christian, alongside the amazing Ashley Loren.

Aaron Tveit has become a household name for theatre lovers both near and far. His 20 year career (thus far) has spanned across the stage, television and the big screen, drawing audiences from all over the world.  He has recently sparked major fame across social media with a video posted by Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s TikTok account of him performing El Tango De Roxanne from the show. The video has been viewed over 3 million times and has been covered by artists like Lizzo! 

With stage credits spanning from the national tour of Rent, Broadway credits in Hairspray, Next to Normal, Wicked, Catch Me If You Can, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, regional productions of Company, the off-West End revival of Assassins, and so many more, theatre fans (including us!) continue to flock to wherever they can get a chance to see him perform.

He has been a part of Moulin Rouge! The Musical since the workshop in November of 2017 and his run originally ended in May of 2022. However, you can catch him back in the show for a limited time now through April 9th. We were lucky enough to witness him in the return to his Tony Award winning role of Christian. We have seen the show before and will always be a fan of his portrayal of this character…and this time around is no exception! We were absolutely floored by his performance and so excited for the chance to catch his return to the show. There is a whole new energy to Tveit’s performance that is almost impossible to describe. It’s definitely something we recommend seeing for yourself. He is truly having the time of his life on stage and it is very evident how special this show and this role are to him. It is absolute magic to witness!

There are other factors to this newfound electricity of this production! The new cast members David Harris and Andre Ward were brought in from the touring cast to continue their roles of The Duke and Toulouse Lautrec, respectively. The chemistry between Harris and Ward with the rest of the cast is absolutely on fire! To see Ashley Loren as Satine (you can catch her in this role until April 9th) is a whole other reason on its own to see this performance. To us, Harris and Tveit just feel like the absolute match for this touching story and as we’ve said many times, we cannot recommend it enough. 

Moulin Rouge! The Musical has recently announced cast departures and new faces coming to the show. Caleb Marshall (Santiago), Jessica Lee Goldyn (Nini) and Ashley Loren (Satine) will be departing alongside Aaron Tveit on April 9th. Derek Klena will be returning to the role of Christian and Ricky Rojas will return to his role of Santiago April 11th alongside new limited Satine casting Joanna 'JoJo' Levesque. Jojo will be Satine from April 11th to July 19th and we can’t wait to see how she takes on this role in her Broadway debut!
