Go Beyond the Ordinary Mother's Day Gifts

May 6, 2019

Mothers hold a special place in our hearts. One of hope. One of peace. And one of love. Abraham Lincoln once said, "All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." And when asked how she would describe her mother, Maya Angelou replied, "To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power."

So with all the powerful love our mothers hold in our hearts, the question remains "What on earth do we give them on Mother's Day?" There're the usual gifts of flowers and maybe taking your mother out for brunch. But we encourage you to go beyond the ordinary Mother's Day gift and give the gift of a memorable experience. Scroll below for three ideas for Mom that she is going to love!

3 Memorable Mother's Day Gifts for a Mom to Enjoy

1. For the Passionate Mom that Loves Grand Experiences

Our moms are there for all our ups and downs - the pure joy and our intense struggles. Take Mom out for an evening at the San Francisco Symphony where you can both get all dressed up, enjoy a glass of bubbly, and listen to a rousing performance of J.S. Bach's ebullient E major Violin Concerto and Shostakovich's larger-than-life Eighth Symphony.

Want to take it one step further? Come to our Concertmaster and Cocktails event on Saturday, June 1st to experience the concert like a VIP. All Red Curtain Addict ticket buyers will have the opportunity to meet the concertmaster Alexander Barantschik, experience an amazing performing featuring works by J.S. Bach and Shostakovich and enjoy exclusive access to a private lounge to enjoy complimentary bites and drinks before the show and during intermission!

2. For the Soulful Mom: A Night of Blues with Marcus Shelby

Get your soulful groove on with Mom by going out for a special evening at SF Jazz with to see Marcus Shelby Orchestra and Daniel Handler. You can catch this group several nights in May but for their final performance on May 26th, Marcus will lead his 22-piece orchestra as they honor the swinging, blues-heavy legacy of jazz's greatest composer, Duke Ellington.

The night will also feature vocalists Kenny Washington (one of our ultimate favorite jazz singers!) and the Dynamic Miss Faye Carol in addition to GRAMMY winner and former Turtle Island Quartet violinist Mads Tolling. Marcus is an Ellington expert, and he will share Ellington stories throughout the show.

Does your Mom always come when you call out her name? You too! Then, you both will be singing along with Carole King's hit song, "You've Got a Friend", during the Tony Award-winning musical, Beautiful.

This musical follows the true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, writing the soundtrack to a generation. It will be the ultimate night out with Mom!
