3 Must-See Operas at the San Francisco Opera this Summer!

This summer, San Francisco Opera's stage is heating up with new, classic, and inaugural performances that are MUST-SEE experiences starting on Saturday, June 4th. Scroll below to find out why these operas are not to be missed... and to access our special giveaway for a chance to WIN 2 tickets to each performance!

1. DON GIOVANNI (JUNE 4 - JULY 2)

Calling all the dark comedy lovers! The Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy concludes in a post-apocalyptic future with Don Giovanni, an opera that masterfully blends dark comedy and even darker deeds - with a twist ending straight out of cult horror flicks like Drag Me to Hell or Night of the Demon.

French Conductor, Bertrand de Billy will conduct Mozart's propulsive score, while Etienne Dupuis, Adela Zaharia, and Nicole Car (who are all making their SF Opera debuts!), and Luca Pisaroni, Cody Quatlebaum, and Amitai Pati (some of our favorite returning performers!) will lead the way to perform a new take on this iconic opera.

Also, you may want to stop by on Friday, June 18, as it will be Pride Night! Walk the rainbow carpet to see Don Giovanni and revel in their Pride Night festivities that include cocktails, dancing, and more!

A lucky winner will be announced on June 3rd on @RedCurtainAddict's Instagram channel!

2. DREAM OF RED CHAMBER (JUNE 14 - JULY 3)

Lust, Politics, and a Love Triangle? The noble Jia family may have finally found the solution to its age-old debt: She's young, she's beautiful, and, most importantly, she's wealthy. There's only one problem. She's not the woman of Bao Yu's dreams.

The music and libretto is created by the talented Bright Sheng and Tony Award Winner, David Henry Hwang. *Fun Fact: Three of his works--M. Butterfly, Yellow Face, and Soft Power--have been finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.* Also, this opera is fairly new! It first premiered on the San Francisco Opera stage in 2016. The company is bringing it back by popular demand and we're certainly happy about that!

And to top it off, you'll not only get to see an amazing story and opera, but you'll also get to see the beautiful sets and costumes designed by Academy-Award winner, Tip Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). It's a win-win-win!

3. EUN SUN KIM CONDUCTS VERDI CONCERT - Thursday June 30 at 7:30pm (PST)

One Night Only! Eun Sun Kim is the first female musical director of the San Francisco Opera and was named "Classical Music Breakout Star of the Year" in 2021 by the New York Times. She will conduct a concert that recognizes the beginnings of her American journey when she made her U.S. debut with performances of Verdi's Requiem and La Traviata.

This evening will be a must-see and historical night of arias, duets, and orchestral and choral performances. Plus, after the performance, there will be an after-party at the magical Green Room in the Veterans Building (next door to the War Memorial Opera House) to toast and celebrate Eun Sun Kim's inaugural performance! Proceeds from the tickets will go to support her vision for the Future of Opera, which to us, is looking better than ever.
